The NGO, Mykolayiv Humanitarian Project (MHP), has been formed to promote the awareness of community instigated projects and civil society activities. More than 14,000 NGOs are registered throughout Ukraine with almost 4,000 playing an active role in their communities. Often the hard work of these dedicated groups of people is unknown outside a small circle of contacts. Due to this lack of awareness about current community initiatives, many Ukrainians believe working to change the current society is pointless.
+
Twelve Peace Corps Volunteers will work with their organizations, other Ukrainian NGOs and donor organizations to reach, produce, distribute and present a comprehensive document on creating sustainable NGOs in Ukraine. Currently, most NGOs in Ukraine depend primarily on a stream of international donor funding and organizations support to operate. It is important that NGOs learn the action steps needed to build sustainable organizations independent of a single donor source of funds. While much material has been created discussing the highest level of sustainability, we intend to create a document that demonstrates what can legally be attempted in Ukraine and detail examples of how some organizations are achieving elements of sustinability today. This document will highlight both successes and failures and the lessons learned from experiences at NGOs. Partnership funds are needed for the overheaded costs, including those for project development, production and distribution of such a document.

MHP plans to change this perception. It will create video material for community and nonprofit (NGO) organizations in Ukraine. The videos will provide these organizations with a tool to reach into the community through presentations and television broadcasts to publicize the positive contributions that are being made to civil society. They will assist in raising both funds and community involvement. In addition, a copy of the video with English subtitles will be provided to be used for international grant applications and information about the organization will be placed on the MHP website. Partnership funds will be used to purchase the electronic equipment necessary to create high quality videos including two video cameras, two tripods, DV playback deck, sound board, and wireless lavilier.
