Abomey Secondary School Renovation and Addition
From Peace Corps Wiki
Info about the Abomey Secondary School Renovation and Addition
The community of Abomey, Benin would like to renovate its existing 30 year old secondary school. The community is looking to repair the roofs, windows, structural damage to the floors, provide electricity for each classroom, and paint the entire school. In addition, the community would like to further improve the school by constructing two additional classrooms. This would provide a classroom for each of the 30 classes at the secondary school. Currently two classes are forced to move from classroom to classroom to hold their lessons. In addition, the benefits of the school renovation and addition will be felt far beyond the immediate occupants of it. A by-product of the construction will be the transfer of knowledge and skills to a number of apprentices in masonry, carpentry, electric circuitry, and plumbing. Dedicated to providing a higher quality of education to its children, the community will provide a cash contribution, materials, and skilled and unskilled labor .The current director of the school will be leading this effort and is a motivated, dedicated, and talented individual who has spearheaded projects of this nature in the past. He has garnered the support of the local parent association and convinced them to provide the community contribution. The additional help from communities here in the U.S. can allow the Abomey community to provide a safe, comfortable, and stimulating learning environment for its many students.
