The goal of this project is to enhance the education of students with hearing impairments, as well as the school community as a whole, through the use of computers. The use of technology, especially computers, is so important at this time. It greatly improves education and access to information outside of the child’s current environment. For a child with hearing impairments, it adds even higher value because so much learning takes place visually. The benefits of computer access and education are unlimited and this project will help students year after year.
The computer lab will be constructed on the school compound and will be equipped with 20 laptop computers. The village does not have electricity now, but the school has been running successfully on solar power for several years. This computer lab will be expertly constructed with the appropriate adaptations for solar-generated power. In addition to educating and empowering the youth of Kenya, we will be helping the environment by using a locally available resource, the sun.
There are several areas of the project that will need financial assistance including, • construction and labor for the lab (including burglar-proofing) • tables and chairs • solar panels, batteries, DC power inverter, wiring, etc. and installation
This project requires a large amount of money, but it is a project that many people in the United States and Kenya are very excited about and invested in, and it is a goal that we can reach together.
