School Garden to Introduce Health and Nutrition

Info about the School Garden to Introduce Health and Nutrition
The aim of this project is to provide supplies to a local primary school in order to initiate extracurricular gardening activities. There are almost no opportunities for children to participate in any activities after school. As a result of this project, children will have an opportunity to contribute to the community by growing food and learning important gardening techniques that will assist them into adulthood. Many of these children will never leave the community and will go on to become farmers, gardeners, and herders, like their parents before them. With this project, the community hopes to give vocational food production training to over one hundred students. In addition, by the introduction of new and various seeds, the implementation of health and nutrition lessons may be incorporated into the gardening activities. In conjunction with the nutrition sessions, hygiene sessions both before and after the garden work will incorporate the soap and kettles to teach the children the importance of cleanliness in life.
The execution of this project will result in a higher quality of life for those children who go to school and their families. By providing a safe, attentive atmosphere, the extracurricular gardening activities will nurture the children into becoming productive members of their community. With the introduction of new vegetable varieties, the community may diversify their food resources, instead of relying too heavily on only the three major gardening crops: onions, cabbage, and lettuce. In addition, the implementation of school gardens in the rainy season will raise awareness of the possibility of food production and consumption during a time in which food is scarce.
