“Where children are the priority”: That’s the motto at CACHES (Criancas Artistas Contra HIV E SIDA: Child Artists Against HIV And AIDS).

Can you imagine growing up in a community with close to a 30% HIV rate without a safe space to resort to?

In a village in Mozambique, it is the norm to witness groups of children roaming through empty yards, playing with trash, or even just sitting idly in the sand. This excess of unsupervised free time leads to the promotion of unhealthy lifestyles and the perpetuation of myths and mis-education about sexuality and STI’s including HIV. To intercept this cycle of erroneous thinking, a place that caters to the well-being and development of children in these types of environments is needed. Such a place will recognize children as “windows of hope” against HIV and AIDS, reaching children with accurate information at a young age to provide stronger influences for future healthy behavior choices. A place that teaches art teaches confidence and self-esteem, which underlie all pathways of success. CACHES is that place. CACHES is a place that will educate youth about HIV and will aid in the development of youth through creative arts and recreation.

Currently, we are undergoing the completion of facility construction and are entering into the planning for an outdoor recreation facility and playground structure. Every donation will help to create this outdoor recreation facility that will be used as an outlet for youth to enjoy their innocence in these pivotal childhood years.
