Info about the Hoshcha Internet Café

Summary:

Jon Kendrick has worked as a TEFL volunteer in the Hoshcha Gymnasium for over one year. It is a small school in a small region, and like most schools in these neglected regions, it constantly faces tough budget decisions due to limited funds. Previously there were no internet cafes within 30 km of Hoshcha. By establishing an internet café at the Hoshcha Gymnasium Jon felt that he could introduce the citizens of the Hoshchankiy region to an additional resource to help enhance their economic and social opportunities and he would be able to make this a sustainable project.

==Subject(s):== Fundraising; Information Technology. ==Story:== Jon Kendrick has worked as a TEFL volunteer in the Hoshcha Gymnasium for over one year. In addition to introducing Internet to the students he is teaching the basics of starting and running a small business. Jon recognized one of the largest challenges that the café would face would be creating a need and a sustained interest in the café. Therefore, in order to create a sustained demand for the internet from the general community, introductory courses on using the internet are provided for a very nominal fee. These courses are instructed either by student volunteers exchanging their services for free time on the net or by paid employees. These courses are advertised in the Hoshchanskiy regional gazette, alongside an advertisement of things that can be done at the internet club (e.g. email, surf the web, burn information DVDs, print documents, internet telephony to talk to relatives cheaply in other countries).
