Info about the Guerin-Kouka Community Library
Guerin-Kouka is a medium-sized town located in northwestern Togo. It is considered remote due to bad roads and its long distance from the nearest major city. This combination causes it to be often overlooked by government authorities and international development agencies resulting in an inadequate infrastructure. The Village Development Committee of Guerin-Kouka would like to address one inadequacy by building a community library. Having a strong desire to further provide educational opportunities, the entire community feels that it is essential to build this library. With very little resources available, this is a rare opportunity to further the education of many individuals, including adults. The community is committed to this project and has formed a management committee that will provide, managerial, financial, and programmatic structure. The community manifests their support by providing the land, labor, a salary for a librarian, and lastly, future upkeep and maintenance of the structure. With additional help from the American community, we could provide the people of Guerin-Kouka with an educational opportunity that some people in America take for granted.
