The aim of this project is to promote awareness of gender issues within various regions of Azerbaijan. Community members who participate in the training seminars will acquire critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques related to gender issues. They will learn to recognize the differences between gender and biology, and evaluate the types of professions, salaries, educational opportunities and leisure activities assigned to men and women. They will learn how these assigned gender roles affect opportunities for both men and women in their communities. The project will achieve its objectives through six seminars in five different regions. Each seminar will be led by two Peace Corps volunteer trainers with assistance from Azerbaijani counterparts.

Approximately 20-30 youth and adults, ages 15-30 from five different regions will participate in the gender training sessions. These participants will be recruited by the community members participating in the trainings. Each session will last approximately 3 hours. The seminars will be conducted in English with an Azerbaijani translator and will present informative gender-related topics through interactive activities and discussions. These seminars will be held at facilities chosen by each individual community. Upon completion, the community members who attend the seminar will be able to identify what is "culture" and what is "biology" and will brainstorm different ways of addressing the problems associated with gender roles within their communities.
