Info about the Community Center (Panama)

This project aims to build a community center for a town of about 350 habitants. The community center will act as an infrastructural improvement to the community giving local people the means to meet in an organized fashion as groups/cooperatives within the community as well as with outside agencies (local agencies or NGO’s). The community center will be located centrally, allowing equal access to everybody, and will be constructed on communal property to avoid ownership conflicts.

The community center will fundamentally allow for the middle and older generations that have been left behind by the faulty education system to acquire new knowledge and skills by attending courses and seminars at the center. The vast majority of the community makes an income working in the agricultural sector, but is un-competitive in this market due to their simple farming tactics. Intrinsically, by means of the community center, they will be able to acquire new sustainable farming techniques, amplifying their production levels and broadening their product base.

The Community Contribution to this project consists of a 25% monetary contribution from the local municipal government for the purchase of construction materials, and the Partnership Contribution will purchase materials and labor costs for the construction of the community center.
